- Legacy Think 465 Series task chair
Description
This Think configuration brings a bright scarlet finish to a slim, open-backed office chair. Individual back flexors and a fabric-covered seat form the original Think support system shown in the gallery. The chair responds to reclining movement while keeping its controls relatively simple.
The listing corresponds to the earlier Think design described in Steelcase's legacy literature. Its measurements and components should be considered separately from a current Think or a differently equipped second-generation chair. Adjustable arms and seat depth let you refine the working position after setting the pneumatic height.
Features
- 3D knit back: an open textile surface covers the individual supporting flexors.
- Upholstered seat: a coordinated scarlet cushion provides a different surface from an all-mesh seat.
- Weight-responsive recline: the mechanism responds to the seated user's load.
- Adjustable seat depth: move the seat to change the space between the backrest and front edge.
- Four-way adjustable arms: position the pads vertically, laterally, fore-and-aft and through pivot.
- Black caster base: the listed hard casters suit the original rolling task-chair configuration.

Check the fit of this Think generation
A mesh-looking back does not make the whole chair an all-mesh design. The upholstered seat has its own firmness and contour, so assess both contact surfaces when comparing chairs. Leave room behind the chair for recline and around the base for moving away from the desk.
| Cushion depth | Compare the 15–17 in usable range with your preferred knee clearance. |
|---|---|
| Chair height | Check the standard 16–21 in seat range against the keyboard height. |
| Arm clearance | Move the pads into a useful position and allow room under the work surface. |
| Floor surface | Hard casters are generally intended for carpet; confirm an appropriate solution for delicate hard floors. |
| Accessories | Do not assume a headrest or a newer Think lumbar component is part of this offer. |
Original Think versus current Think
Think has changed over its production life. Model generation matters when comparing seat dimensions, replacement parts, controls and accessory compatibility. Use the supplied chair's identification label for service inquiries rather than ordering a part simply because it carries the Think name.
Set your height and seat depth before evaluating the recline. A backrest can feel different when the seat is too far forward or the desk requires you to reach; those workspace relationships deserve attention alongside the mechanism itself.

Common questions
Is this the newest Think chair?
The catalog language and pictured individual flexors correspond to the original Think design. This page uses the matching legacy specifications.
Is the seat made of mesh?
No. This configuration combines a 3D knit back with an upholstered seat.
Does it have adjustable armrests?
Yes. The listed arms adjust in height, width, depth and pivot.
Can I use a part advertised for Think V2?
Do not assume compatibility across generations. Match the chair's identification label and the manufacturer's part specification before ordering.
