The Fluke Networks IntelliTone Pro 100 tone generator and probe kit with patch cords, test leads, and F-type adapter verifies and troubleshoots virtually any copper cabling in datacom and telecom networks using IntelliTone digital signaling to locate and trace data cabling on active networks and analog signaling to isolate individual wire pairs and trace voice, audio, and video cabling on inactive networks. The tone generator identifies the type of service, tests for Line 1 POTS (plain old telephone service) polarity and ring, and verifies continuity. Its F-type connector supports VDV (voice, data, and video) cables including RJ45, RJ11, coaxial, and bare wire while its banana jacks accommodate test leads. It generates IntelliTone digital signals that minimize the effect of signal bleed for locating high-grade data cabling (Cat 5e/6/6a) on active networks, and generates 500 to 1,200 Hz analog signals with four distinct SmartTone cadences for isolating individual wire pairs and locating voice, audio, and video cabling (Cat 3 and below) on inactive networks. LED indicators identify a jack as datacom, telecom, or dead. The tone generator turns off automatically after 2.5 hours of inactivity. The probe detects the signals from the tone generator to locate and trace cables at cable racks, in patch panels, and even behind walls, and identifies detected signals audibly and with eight LEDs that light successively as the signal strength increases for prompt isolation of a single cable within a bundle. A sync LED shows battery strength at power-up and confirms reception of IntelliTone signals, and the cable map function allows the probe to validate the cable map on RJ11 and RJ45 connectors, testing continuity and finding short circuits, open circuits, and crossed-pair wiring faults on all four pairs of UTP and STP twisted pair cabling. RJ11 and RJ45 jacks plug into a port on the bottom of the probe. The probe turns off automatically after one hour of inactivity. The kit comes with an RJ11-to-RJ11 patch cord, an RJ45-to-RJ45 patch cord, a test lead set with banana jacks to alligator clips, a female-to-female F-type connector adapter, a 9V alkaline battery, a product manuals CD, and instructions. Additional specifications include various environmental operating conditions. Tone generators and probes are used by network technicians to troubleshoot and maintain wires and cable in telephone and data networks.

Datacom and telecom installation and test devices, such as toners and test sets, check cabling and wiring to help ensure proper connections and operation. Tone generator and probe sets, also called toners, are used to locate, trace, and isolate cables in copper media networks. Telephone test sets, also called butt sets, are specialized telephones that connect to telephone lines to check for proper operation and to isolate trouble. Some test sets incorporate a TDR (time-domain reflectometer) and toner for determining cable length and locating faults.
