- Networked ceiling paging speaker
Description
The Algo 8188 puts network audio overhead in offices, classrooms, reception areas and similar indoor spaces. Connect it to a suitable Ethernet network and configure it for a compatible SIP system or multicast audio. Its built-in amplifier removes the need for a separate traditional paging amplifier.
Wideband G.722 support helps speech retain clarity, while local audio files provide notification sounds. The integrated microphone can support two-way communication and automatic volume compensation as background noise changes. Those features depend on the chosen configuration and connected system.
Features
- Power over Ethernet: IEEE 802.3af PoE carries power and data through the network cable.
- SIP paging and ringing: separate extension assignments support announcements and telephone-ring notifications.
- Multicast audio: send or receive network audio across appropriately configured paging zones.
- Two-way communication: the microphone supports talkback through a compatible SIP configuration.
- Noise-responsive volume: ambient-noise compensation can adjust output for changing room conditions.
- Web-based setup: configure the speaker through its network interface and supported provisioning tools.

Plan the system before installation
Algo's current instructions recommend its appropriate ceiling support accessories. Follow the mounting template and installation guide, and keep the network connection accessible for service. A ceiling speaker location should be chosen for useful coverage rather than simply the nearest cable outlet.
| Network power | Provide a compatible PoE switch port or PoE injector; a normal unpowered Ethernet port is insufficient. |
|---|---|
| Phone system | Confirm SIP compatibility, extension settings and any required PBX permissions. |
| Paging zones | Have the network configured for the multicast groups and routing the installation will use. |
| Ceiling support | Check the ceiling construction and select the appropriate support bracket or panel. |
| Software features | Check the supplied firmware and any platform-specific licensing before promising an integration. |
Know which accessories your design needs
The standard 8188 is a network endpoint, not an analog 70 V speaker. It does not provide the passive-satellite arrangement offered by the separate 8198 model. If your project uses InformaCast, confirm the correct licensed configuration; standard 8188 identification alone does not establish that license.
What's included
- Algo 8188 ceiling speaker
- White trim ring and grille
- Manufacturer mounting template, terminal connector and standard installation components
PoE switch or injector, network cable, optional ceiling supports, call button and additional platform licenses are separate.
Common questions
Can I connect it to an existing analog paging amplifier?
It is designed as a powered network endpoint using SIP or multicast, not as a passive analog speaker. An existing analog system needs a suitable integration design.
Does it have a wall-plug power input?
The specified power source is IEEE 802.3af PoE. Plan a compatible powered network port or injector.
Can it play background music?
Yes, it can reproduce supported network audio. The music source, permissions and multicast configuration must be provided separately.
Does every multicast receiver need its own phone extension?
A receiver can be configured for multicast audio without using a separate SIP registration for that function. The overall paging design determines which endpoints need registration.
