Description

The Humanscale Freedom Headrest combines sculpted upholstery with a mechanism that responds to the sitter’s weight. Its graphite frame and black Fourtis fabric create a restrained finish for a workstation or study. Fourtis is a four-way-stretch fabric identified in Humanscale’s upholstery guide. The headrest is part of the chair’s moving support system, not a loose pillow.

Freedom’s controls focus on fit: seat height, seat depth, back height, arm height and headrest height. Once these are set, the chair balances the recline as you lean back. This listing specifies standard Duron arms; it does not identify the advanced arm upgrade or gel-seat package.

Features

  • Dynamic head support: the headrest changes angle with the recline after you set its height.
  • Weight-sensitive recline: uses the sitter’s weight to balance movement without a conventional tension dial.
  • Adjustable back height: position the shaped backrest to suit your torso.
  • Sliding seat cushion: change usable depth to match thigh length and knee clearance.
  • Synchronous arms: standard Duron arms move together vertically and stay connected to the reclining back.
  • Graphite and black finish: pairs a dark frame with upholstered seat, back and headrest cushions.

Understand the Freedom’s adjustment approach

Understand the Freedom’s adjustment approach
You prefer a moving back The counterbalanced recline is designed to respond as you lean.
You want a fixed recline angle There is no conventional multi-position tilt lock; try the mechanism before choosing it for this purpose.
You need head support Adjust headrest height and check contact while reclined, not only while sitting upright.
You compare arm upgrades This listing has standard synchronous height-adjustable arms, not the advanced width-adjustable package.

Fit matters more than the chair’s silhouette

Set the seat depth while sitting fully back, then adjust the backrest so its curved support contacts the right part of your lower back. Raise the arms just enough to support your forearms. You should still be able to approach the keyboard without the arms forcing you away from the desk.

Firsthand reviewers discuss the headrest’s usefulness during recline, while some owners prefer a different back or cushion feel. Check the seat measurements and headrest fit yourself.

The offer specifies soft hard-floor casters. Keep wheels clean and follow your flooring maker’s care guidance. Vacuum fabric gently and follow Humanscale’s instructions for Fourtis upholstery before treating stains.

Common questions

Does it have to be adjusted every time I recline?

No. The recline is weight-sensitive. You still establish seat, back, headrest and arm positions when first fitting the chair.

Can I adjust lumbar depth?

Freedom uses a shaped, height-adjustable backrest rather than a separate lumbar-depth control.

Do both arms move together?

Yes. The standard synchronous arms raise and lower together. An advanced arm package is a different option.

Is this the gel-seat version?

A gel seat is not specified for this listing. Do not assume it is included from the Freedom model name alone.
