Epson EcoTank ET-2720 Guide: Features, Ink and Buying Checks

The Epson EcoTank ET-2720 is a basic refillable-ink printer, scanner and copier. It suits document printing and occasional single-page scans when you can handle paper manually. It has no automatic document feeder, automatic two-sided printing, Ethernet port or fax function.

This is an older model. Epson's US page identifies the ET-2800 as its replacement, so compare the exact ET-2720 offer with newer alternatives and pay close attention to condition, included ink and seller support. Who is the ET-2720 a reasonable fit for?

Consider it when you print everyday forms, schoolwork or color documents and usually scan one original at a time. Refillable tanks can make sense when you will use enough ink to justify the printer's purchase price. If most of your paperwork is a stack of two-sided originals, the handling will matter more than the tank size.

Epson's original US launch sheet rates document output at 10 black and 5 color ISO pages per minute. Its current US product page also shows 10.5 black in one specification section. Treat this as a roughly 10-ppm class printer, not a promise for every job: quality settings, photos, first-page delay and manual duplexing change completion time.

522 ink, page yields and realistic running costs

For the US ET-2720, Epson specifies 522 bottles in all four colors. Published replacement yields are up to 4,500 black pages and 7,500 color pages using Epson's stated test method. These are replacement-ink figures, not a count of full-page photographs or a guarantee of how long the initial fill lasts.

Calculate with your own workload. Divide the current black-bottle price by the published black yield for a starting estimate, then account for paper, initial charging, cleaning and the coverage of your documents. A low theoretical supply cost is less valuable if a small volume of printing never recovers a higher purchase price.

Check the tanks visually and follow Epson's refill procedure. The printer estimates ink use; it does not directly measure the remaining liquid. Avoid allowing a tank to fall below the lower line. If a nozzle-check pattern has gaps, use the documented maintenance sequence instead of repeatedly running cleaning cycles without checking the result.

Plan for the printing footprint

The working depth is 9.1 inches greater than the stored depth. Allow additional access to load the rear feeder, lift the scanner lid and reach the ink tanks; the published printing height does not mean an overhead shelf can sit directly above the closed lid. Epson lists an approximate weight of 8.8 pounds without ink or the power cord.

Before setup, check Epson's support page for software that matches your actual operating system. The printer uses 2.4 GHz wireless networking, so a network offering only 5 GHz will not be a direct Wi-Fi match. USB is an alternative for a nearby computer. Older packaging may mention services that are no longer available; choose a connection method supported today.

Buying a used, renewed or old-stock ET-2720

1. Confirm the model and region. Check the label and ink number rather than relying on a generic EcoTank photograph.
2. Ask about condition. Establish whether it is unused stock, used or seller-renewed, and whether ordinary ink or another formulation has been installed.
3. Request a recent nozzle check. A powered-on display alone does not demonstrate complete print output.
4. Check all functions. Ask for a printed page, a flatbed scan and confirmation that paper feeds without repeated errors.
5. Check the supply and accessory list. Ink quantity, power cord and tray parts may differ from the original retail package.
6. Read the actual remedy. Confirm who provides support and returns; do not assume original launch warranty terms transfer to a different seller or condition.
